National Storytelling Week in the Early Years Feb 27, 2024

Article 29: We have the right to develop our talents and abilities.

Nursery class returned to school following the February half term to a very exciting week! This week is National Storytelling Week and the children have loved exploring a range of traditional tales and fairy tales so far! This week the children have shown a key interest in key texts – The Gingerbread Man and Jack and the Beanstalk. The children have enjoyed listening to these texts and have began to explore a range of stories in the class environments adding narratives and key verbal phrases to their own self led play.
To celebrate this special week – Maria Walker from Gateshead Library Service also visited the setting with a special gift set for all pupils. The children all loved listening to a special story telling session and were keen to explore rhymes and jingles linked to the story telling session.
All children were gifted a special reading and rhyme pack following the story telling session.

The gift pack contained the book ‘One Banana, Two Bananas’ by Adam Guillian and Charlotte Guillian. The children really enjoyed this interactive, story telling session which focussed on reading, rhyme and counting skills. Please continue to enjoy this special reading pack at home with your child. Weekly library books in Nursery will continue to be changed on Tuesdays and Thursdays so you can read for pleasure at home. Happy Reading!
